Joel Charles and guests attending the fire service memorial gardens

Deputy PFCC Joel Charles attended a ceremony to mark the second anniversary of the National Red Plaque Fire Service Memorial Gardens in Rettendon.

The Gardens were founded to commemorate the courage and service of past and living firefighters and the host for the event was Ronnie Patterson, President of the Red Knights England 4 Chapter

The service was held on Saturday 9th May and Joel Charles was joined at the ceremony by the Mayor of Chelmsford Councillor Janetta Sosin, Mayoress Chris Shaw, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Catharine Hutley, and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Chris Else.

Joel Charles, Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “Remembering the courage and dedication of those who have served as members of the fire service community is important. It was also an honour to join the Red Knights to officially unveil the memorial to fire service dogs. The Living Memorial site in Rettendon is a fitting tribute to those who have put public service above all else.”
