ECFRS passout parade with Jane G Thurs 9th Oct

Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Jane Gardner today joined proud families, senior fire service leaders and colleagues at Witham Fire Station to celebrate twelve newly qualified firefighters who will now begin their careers at wholetime fire stations across Essex.

The Passing Out parade marked the culmination of months of intensive training, showcasing the recruits’ skills through a series of drills and demonstrations. The event was hosted by Station Manager Scott Fretton and attended by Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Chris Else.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jane Gardner said: “It was a real pleasure to attend today’s Passing Out Parade and personally welcome our newest firefighters into the service. Their dedication, professionalism and teamwork were clear to see, and I know they will make a vital contribution to keeping our communities safe. I wish them every success in their careers.”

The ceremony concluded with certificate presentations, photographs and refreshments shared among guests and recruits.

Essex Fire & Rescue Service are recruiting on-call firefighters

On-call firefighters have everyday lives and jobs, until their pager sounds; then they immediately make their way to the fire station.

There are just three requirements – they must:

  • Live or work within five minutes of an on-call fire station
  • Be over 18
  • Be physically fit (we will support you and give training in this area)
