Illegal use of privately-owned e-scooters on public roads among topics raised at PFCC public meeting for Rochford district

The illegal use of privately-owned e-scooters on public roads, use of new road safety technology to reduce speeding and car crime and fire and rescue cover in rural areas were some of the topics raised at the PFCC Rochford district public meeting on Tuesday 30th September.
The meeting was held in the Freight House, Rochford.
Answering questions from the public were Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst joined by Cllr Mike Webb, Rochford Council Chair of the Committee for Communities Homes and Health, Chief Inspector Ganeshwaram Rasaratnam and Insp Dave Thompson of Essex Police and ECFRS Group Manager Dave Walpole.
Attendees at the meeting heard how over the past 12 months to the end of August 2025 all crime in Rochford district is down 11.7%, ASB is down 7.1% and Burglary is down 14.2%. These are the very latest figures available.
Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Roger Hirst said: “Being able to hear directly from local communities is invaluable in better understanding concerns and ensure we are working together to make Essex a safer place.”
The PFCC Essex hosts a public meeting once a year in each of the 14 districts of Essex, allowing residents to raise community safety matters directly with the panel. This is part of the ongoing PFCC Essex engagement schedule which has directly engaged with more than 3,000 Essex residents in the past 12 months.
The next PFCC Essex Public Meeting will be the meeting for Maldon district which will be held at the West Maldon Community Centre, Sunbury Way, Maldon, CM9 6YH on Thursday 6th November.
