PFCC and community safety partners welcome new Chief Constable

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst joined His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, council leaders and other partners in welcoming the new Chief Constable of Essex Police today.

At a special reception at Essex Police's HQ in Chelmsford, Rachel Nolan was today welcomed as Chief Constable by the Commissioner, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, council leaders from across the county and other community safety partners who work to keep the county safe.

Roger Hirst, PFCC, said: "Rachel has a clear vision for the future of policing in Essex and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our communities.

"She has a commitment to prevention, tackling crime and improving confidence in the way the force supports victims, closely aligning with the priorities set out in my Police and Crime Plan."

Chief Constable Nolan has been an Essex Police officer since August 1998 and has risen through the ranks, being promoted to Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) in March 2020 and Deputy Chief Constable in January 2025.
