Home office visit to show Roger Hirst, part two

Roger HIrst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, today joined partners in welcoming officials from the Home Office to Essex.

Two officials from the Home Office today visited Chelmsford to view the results of nearly £700,000 of significant investment in the city, funding secured from the Safer Streets programme.

This investment is part of £7.8m Safer Streets investment across Essex, which has, among other projects, funded safety improvements for the night-time economy, including the SOS bus in Colchester and Chelmsford and the Ask for Angela campaign, aimed at helping women and girls.

The Commissioner and partners were happy to show the Home Office officials a wide range of projects supported in the city, such as environmental improvements, enhanced lighting, and CCTV projects, bystander training to combat violence toward women and girls and diversionary youth interventions.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “It was a pleasure to show the Home Office the work that all partners have completed to improve community safety and drive down crime in the city. We’ve achieved a great deal and my congratulations to all partners involved.”

In Essex, the Home Office backed Summer Safer Streets initiative was running in August which resulted in 22 arrests and weapons seized.
