PFCC-funded Safer Streets investment in new skate park celebrated

PFCC‑funded Safer Streets investment in Maldon was celebrated yesterday at an official opening of a new skatepark in the town’s Promonade Park.
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, joined Cllr Kevin Lagan, Chairman of Maldon District Council, who welcomed guests and officially opened the skatepark to the public by cutting the ribbon. Doug Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Maldon District Council also attended joined by senior council officers and local councillors.
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “We are pleased to support this exciting project through our PFCC-funded Safer Streets Fund. Young people play an important part in our society, so it is great to see so many young people involved in this project, creating a sense of ownership.”
Total PFCC-funded safer streets investment in Maldon Promonade Park, which includes project management of the Skate Park, is £132k, funding which includes lighting surrounding the skate park allowing it to be used all year round, a youth shelter, CCTV, youth-led murals on park buildings and a social space for young girls.
