PFCC with officers from Basildon NPT

More local, visible and accessible policing is coming to Essex following the launch of new Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex has been attending launches across the county this week including Basildon on Wednesday 28th May, Colchester and Canvey Island on 29th May and Clacton on 30th May.

The new Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee has helped fund the re-assignment of 74 officers to duties in Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) across Essex.

As well as working with councils and other partners to tackle issues in local areas and prevent crime, the Neighbourhood Policing Team’s work also includes reducing criminal anti-social behaviour, carrying out proactive operations, enforcing orders, and targeting repeat offenders and those who exploiting vulnerable people.

The types of crimes they will investigate include some robberies and sexual offences, vehicle crime, shoplifting, business burglaries, and dangerous dog incidents.

NPTs work with our partners to prevent crime happening in the first place and provide solutions to issues in local areas.

Roger Hirst said: “More local, visible and accessible policing has always been at the heart of our approach to community safety, this is a priority in our Police and Crime Plan which we developed last year.

“Earlier this year we worked hard to communicate our vision to the Government during the recent precept negotiations and it’s pleasing to launch the Government’s National Policing Guarantee which aligns with our plans.

“We are pleased officers will now be more visible in our communities, sustaining our commitment to supporting town centre policing, neighbourhood policing, rural policing and working to reduce crimes against businesses.”
