PFCC Essex Community Goals Football Tournament, July 2025

A football tournament for young people, supported by the PFCC Essex, Active Essex and Essex Police played a role in strengthening communities and supporting youth work known to prevent and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Essex Community Goals Football Tournament, for 12-13 olds took place on Saturday 12th July, 2025, at the Essex Police College, St Margarets Road, Chelmsford.

The event was a 7-a-side tournament for players of all genders with a maximum of 10 players per team.

The day was a huge success which saw some tremendous performances from teams who took part, including a younger team that battled on and won games against physically bigger opponents and a team unused to playing with each other who won a special ‘endeavour’ award.

The football tournament was supported by the PFCC as an event to achieve the stated aim in the Police and Crime Plan 2024-2028 to work with young people to build resilience and strengthen factors which are known to prevent and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in communities across Essex.

Jane Gardner, Deputy PFCC, attended the event on Saturday, said: “It was a great community event and it was so good to see so many young people enjoying the day – there was some brilliant football played, the standard was very high, and I know it’s a cliche, but at the end of the day everyone really was a winner.

“I want to thank Essex Police and Active Essex for a well-organised event, this was a wonderful opportunity to engage with young people about community safety and for the young players themselves to build friendships and relationships which will last long into the future. At the PFCC we always aim to build safe and secure communities in which everyone can thrive and I truly believe we have laid a few foundations today.”
