PFCC welcomes 36 new officers to Essex Police at Passing Out Parade

The sun shone as PFCC Roger Hirst welcomed another 36 new recruits into Essex Police.
The students, who have completed 22 weeks at Essex Police College, proudly wore their uniforms and marched in front of their loved ones and invited dignitaries at their Passing Out Parade at Essex Police Headquarters.
Essex Police Chief Constable BJ Harrington, Lord Lieutenant for Essex Jennifer Tollhurst and High Sheriff for Essex Julie Fosh congratulated the men and women as they read their attestations.
Mr Hirst, who has recently been touring the new Neighbourhood Policing Teams across the county, told the new members of the Essex Police family: “It gladdens my heart to see you all here today. It is a huge honour and privilege to take part in these ceremonies.
“It is my job to say welcome on behalf of the people of Essex. They asked me to find more money to fund more of you. The Government gave us funding for our new Neighbourhood Policing Teams, which some of you will be joining, which is good. The reception we have had around the county reflects the warmth you are greeted by in those communities and the special place you have in their hearts. I hope you feel that.
“I know the role is challenging. But, there is a huge number of Essex residents who are completely with you.
“It is an amazing job you do; it really does make a huge difference.
“We are a great family force. Part of that is feeling a part of the bigger Essex community and the heart of the communities you serve. They have your support and you have their support.”
“This is an exciting time to be joining Essex Police.”
Local, visible, accessible policing is a top priority in the PFCC Police and Crime Plan, formulated after consulting more than 5,000 people, and also in the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee.
Seventy-four officers have been assigned to the new Neighbourhood Policing Teams across the county, with a mission of driving crime further down and making county communities safer.
Mr Hirst said: “These extra officers will help the force to continue moving forward and underpin our commitment to engaging with the public and being out there making a difference and keeping people safe.”
