Response to IPCC investigation into an incident in Colchester custody

The IPCC has published the statement linked below on their website: Man loses tops of fingers whilst detained by Essex Police Lindsay Whitehouse, Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “It is entirely appropriate that the IPCC investigates this matter given the injuries suffered by the individual concerned. I support this process and whilst it is underway it would be inappropriate to comment further until the full facts are established. Essex Police has assured me that an internal review of toilet facilities in custody suites was carried out in the aftermath of this incident and I understand replacement works are now underway.”
