Today marks World Mental Health Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts in support of mental wellbeing.

Jane Gardner, Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex and Chair of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Suicide Prevention Board, has shared a message of support and reflection: “World Mental Health Day is a powerful reminder that mental health matters to all of us. It’s an opportunity to talk openly, reduce stigma and strengthen the support available to those who are struggling.

"As Chair of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Suicide Prevention Board, I see first-hand the importance of collaboration across services, communities and individuals to prevent suicide and promote mental wellbeing.

"We must continue to listen to those with lived experience, invest in accessible care and build a culture where seeking help is not only accepted but encouraged.

“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and together, we can make a real difference.”

World Mental Health Day encourages everyone to reflect on what more can be done to make mental health care a reality for people everywhere.
