The Essex Police, Fire and Crime Panel is responsible for scrutinising and supporting the work of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.   The Panel is recruiting two Independent Members to work alongside its elected councillors. Successful applicants will:  
  • Hold the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner to account
  • Scrutinise the appointment of the Chief Constable, Chief Fire Officer and other key people
  • Review important police and fire policy documents
  • Review the Commissioner’s budget
  • Consider complaints about the Commissioner.
  An allowance of up to £920 per annum plus approved expenses may be claimed.   We are looking for people with the skills, knowledge and experience to make sure that the Panel can do its job effectively. Key skills required include the ability to:  
  • Think strategically and be analytical
  • Make good judgements
  • Be open to change
  • Scrutinise and challenge
  • Communicate effectively
  • Build effective working relationships
  Candidates must be at least 18 years old and live or work in the Essex Police Force area. We particularly welcome candidates who have experience in community safety, victim support, criminal justice or similar work.   Candidates must not be a member of the staff of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, the Essex Fire Authority or Essex Police.
