The Board has been established to enable the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner in his role as the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Fire and Rescue Authority to review Essex County Fire and Rescue Service’s (ECFRS) performance, ensure that budgeted resources are closely aligned with fire priorities and to ensure that resources are effectively and efficiently being utilised.

The role of the Performance & Resource Board
This Board also holds the Chief Fire Officer accountable for delegated functions and those under their direction and control. The role also encompasses considering and discussing various themes for scrutiny, challenge, and support, monitoring actual revenue spend against budget and forecast outturn, and advising on corrective actions to advance service priorities.
Monitoring actual and forecast capital expenditure against the approved capital program and advising the Strategic Board on progress is also essential. Furthermore, tracking the progress of planned transformation savings and ensuring transparency by publishing the agenda and minutes of review and scrutiny processes are key duties.
