Dedicated Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will continue to provide a visible policing presence in Frinton and Walton following approval of a new funding agreement between the Essex Police, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) and Frinton and Walton Town Council.

Under the Special Police Services (SPS) agreement, the town council will fund 1.91 full-time equivalent PCSOs to work locally from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, helping to tackle antisocial behaviour, low level crime and local quality of life issues.

The agreement builds on a longstanding arrangement which has helped reduce incidents, improve reassurance and strengthen relationships between the police, residents and businesses in the area. While crime levels in Frinton and Walton are relatively low, the dedicated PCSO presence provides additional visibility, engagement and preventative policing tailored to local priorities.

The annual cost of the agreement for 2026/27 is forecast at £134,780, representing the full economic cost of providing the PCSOs, and will be funded by Frinton and Walton Town Council.

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Roger Hirst, said: Visible, locally focused policing makes a real difference to how safe people feel in their communities.

“This agreement ensures that Frinton and Walton continue to benefit from dedicated PCSOs who know the area, understand local concerns and work closely with residents and the town council to prevent problems before they escalate.

“Coastal communities often face seasonal challenges with antisocial behaviour and crime. It is good news that a new funding agreement is in place ahead of the summer season.

“It’s a strong example of partnership working that supports safer communities and helps Essex Police focus resources where they are needed most.”

The funded PCSOs will continue to support neighbourhood policing teams, focusing on community engagement, early intervention and problem solving, while helping to maintain confidence among residents and visitors.

The agreement also supports the priorities set out in the PFCC’s Police and Crime Plan, reinforcing a commitment to prevention, partnership working and visible policing across Essex.
