Deputy PFCC Joel Charles welcomed 16 new Firefighters and two new Fire Control Operators to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon.

The Firefighters and Fire Control Operators were welcomed to the service at a passing out parade at the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) Witham Training Centre in front of family and friends.

Joining Joel Charles, Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner was Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton.

Reflecting on the Passing Out Parade, Joel Charles highlighted the trusted role Firefighters and Fire Control Operators play serving the communities that make up Essex. He said: “The newest crop of firefighters and control operators are extraordinary people. They have exceeded expectations by showing a high level of professionalism during the Service’s intensive training programme. They will now play a key role in maintaining trust in the Service by tackling blazes, answering 999 calls and promoting the importance of fire safety.

“There will be times when they are called upon to respond to dangerous situations, work to coordinate the communications during such major incidents and face the consequences of tragic events. A lot will be asked of them. It takes courage to be prepared to face those situations.

“There is a remarkable sense of purpose driving these new firefighters and control operators as they embark on their careers serving the public. The county will be forever grateful for the dedication and resilience they will go on to demonstrate.”

The new Firefighters will now serve at stations across Essex.
