Launch of Maldon Womens Safety Charter

The safety of women and girls in the Maldon district has been supported by a £16,000 investment from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

The funding has supported a range of initiatives designed to make the district even safer for women and girls, including the creation of a Maldon Women’s Safety Charter, specialist training for people working in the night-time economy and a new film highlighting how men can challenge and stop behaviours that make women feel unsafe.

Cllr Ron Pratt, Chairman of Maldon District Council, joined Insp Emily Holmes of Essex Police and partners from the Maldon Community Safety Partnership, which includes the PFCC, at Blackwater Leisure Centre to launch the Maldon Women’s Safety Charter and premiere the film.

Local people took part in the film, including young drama students from the Plume School in Maldon and Ormiston Rivers Academy in Burnham.

The film will now form part of a wider programme of education across schools, businesses and community groups throughout the district, helping to challenge behaviours that can make women feel unsafe.
