“Our deepest condolences go to the families and community affected by the dreadful incident at the synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester.

“We want to reassure our Jewish community in Essex that proactive steps are being taken to protect public safety. Following discussions with the Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer, I am confident that effective operations are in place, with additional patrols and resources at synagogues and in key areas across the county.

“While there is no intelligence to suggest any threat in Essex, officers and firefighters will continue to provide a visible and reassuring presence.

“I join the Chief Constable in urging anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious to report it immediately.”
