PFCC visits HMP Chelmsford for productive meeting with Governor

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, visited HMP Chelmsford this week for a productive meeting with the Governor and his staff.

Among the issues Mr Hirst spoke about with Governor Mark Howard and his team were the impact of new Government sentencing and early release policies.

Mr Hirst said: "There are clearly risks related to early release, but I had a really good meeting with the Governor and his team, they explained how they understand those risks, how they've got a grip on it, how they are doing the process, how they are working closely with probation and making sure that the best possible outcomes are achieved for the people of the county."
