Residents in Thornwood, near Epping, raised concerns about speeding motorists, e-scooters, shoplifting and emergency access for fire engines at a public meeting hosted by Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

The meeting took place at Thornwood Common Community Centre, North Weald Bassett, Thornwood, Epping on Thursday 10th September 2026, and brought together residents, councillors, police and council representatives to discuss local issues and the work being carried out to address them.

The panel included Roger Hirst, Chief Inspector Terry Fisher, Essex Police commander of Epping Forest district, Group Manager Dan Kirk of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and representatives from Epping Forest District Council, representing Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership.

Residents were encouraged to continue reporting concerns to Essex Police, Epping Forest District Council and relevant partner agencies so that issues can be recorded, investigated and acted upon.

The meeting was the latest meeting in the PFCC's engagement schedule which hosts a public meeting each year in each of the 14 districts of Essex. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 24th September at Witham Community Centre, Haygreen Road, Witham, CM8 IGT.
